Leisure World of Maryland - FIRESIDE FORUM 2007-2008 Program

Leisure World of Maryland – FIRESIDE FORUM

 

            The FIRESIDE FORUM in Leisure World of Maryland is a Non-Profit Tax-Exempt Organization is made up of some 40+ organizations in Leisure World.  The purpose of which is to plan and conduct a series of once a month Sunday evening or afternoon programs centered in the fields of culture, education and public affairs.  This practice has been going on since November of 1967, and this year the 40 such year, they have put together another fine list of presenters.

 

            The series this year starts off – Memories of a Foreign Service Officer presented by Malcom Lawrence a Former Senior U.S. Foreign Services Officer; on Sunday Sept 9 at 7:30 PM.

 

            October 8, 2007 at 7:30 PM the series continues with – Celebrating 60Years on the Radio in Washington presented by Fred Fiske a Washington Radio Broadcaster (WAMU-FM)

 

            November 4 2007 again at 7:30 PM, the presenter will be Roberta I. Shafer who is the Exec. Director,  Federal Library & Information Center Committee, Library of Congress; with the program being Junk Science and Junk Justice.

 

            The last of the session in the year of 2007 will be Dec 2 starting at 2:30 PM – Why We Must Sweat  to be presented by Barry G. Simon, M.D. a Fellow, Am. College of Chest Physicians, Asst. Clinical Prof. Med. Georgetown University.

 

            The first program in the new year on Jan 6, 2008 at 2:30 PM again will be – Bringing Islam Into the Modern World.  The presenter being Lawrence B. Wilkerson – Prof. of Government, William and Mary and Former Chief of Staff to Colin Powell.

 

            Feb 3, 2008 at 2:30 PM will see Murray Seeger a Career Journalist, Former Moscow Correspondent for the LA Times;  presenting The Czar Returns!

 

            Continuing on March 2 at 2:30 PM the program will be titled - A Pilgrimage Through Life; to be presented by Louis Raymond Perkins a Civil Rights Activist, Educator, and Historian.

 

            The next to last presentation for this years program on April 6 at 7:30 PM will be The Geology of Our Scenery: Illustrated. The presenter will be Prof. Emeritus, VA Tech, Harvard University Resident Assoc., and Smithson Institution; Richard K. Bambach, Ph.D.

 

            The last in series for the 2007-2008 year program will be on May 4 again at 7:30 PM with the presenter being Dr. Brian C. Belanger and his topic – A Walk Through the History of Radio and TV.   Dr. Belanger is the Executive Director/Curator of the Radio & Television Museum.

 

            As you can see the committee has put together what appears to be another good series of lectures.
